Summary

VisionChess does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data. The app runs entirely on your device. There are no user accounts, no analytics, no advertising, and no tracking.

Camera

VisionChess requires access to your phone's camera in order to detect chess pieces on a real board. All camera data is processed locally on your device using on-device AI (YOLO/TFLite). Camera frames are never uploaded, saved to your photo library, or transmitted to any server.

Microphone (optional)

If you choose to record custom sounds for chess pieces, VisionChess will request microphone access. Recordings are saved to your device only and never leave it. You can delete them at any time from within the app.

Game data

Move lists, game positions, and PGN exports are stored locally on your device. When you choose to share a PGN — for example to chess.com or lichess — that action uses your device's standard share sheet. VisionChess itself does not transmit your games anywhere.

Model downloads

The app may download additional chess set recognition models on demand (e.g. Pokemon, Drago, H.C. Andersen). These downloads are anonymous HTTPS requests to our model server and contain no personally identifiable information.

Optional contributions

If you enable the "Add New Board" or use the "Correct" feature to help train future models, the affected images and corrections are uploaded to our server. These uploads are anonymous and contain only the chess board image and correction data — no personal identifiers, location, or device info are sent. You control whether to enable these features in Settings.

Children's privacy

VisionChess does not knowingly collect any data from children or adults. The app is safe for all ages.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will appear on this page with a new "Last updated" date.
